Major Groove was created by Joanne, Jonathan and Tony after several years of both good and not so good experiences in large Soul bands.
We wanted to create a smaller band, where we could be entertaining and musically creative, but above all, really enjoy the process and transmit that enjoyment to those who engage us to perform.
We have assembled a team of talented and experienced musicians and are ready to rock!

Kevin : Lead & Rhythm Guitar
Kevin first had piano lessons when he was 11 but gave up not long after (one of his biggest regrets). He took up guitar when he was 20 and is self taught. He now teaches guitar in his spare time.
Over the years he has played in many diverse musical situations, playing both acoustic and electric guitar, and plays live every week with a contemporary Christian rock and worship band (SCC).
Having jammed with Tony (Stikky) on numerous occasions, he was asked to join Major Groove three weeks before a gig to help them out, and after was asked to stay on.
He sees Major Groove as a new and exciting musical challenge.
Jonathan :Keyboards, Alto Sax and occasional lead guitar
Jonathan has been playing music for over half a century and is Grade VIII in piano (1966!) and jazz saxophone (2007).
Previous bands were "Soul Satisfaction", where he also played with Tony and Joanne, and "Junction 2" where Joanne was a lead singer.
Jonathan also plays Alto sax in the University of Birmingham Wind Band and Soprano Sax in the University of Birmingham Saxophone Ensemble.
He also has his own Saxophone Quartet where he plays Alto and Soprano.
Jonathan is Musical Director for Major Groove and is delighted with the talent in the band and progress made in the short time it has been together
Tony aka 'Stikky-T' : Acoustic & Electronic Drums
After half a lifetime "resting" Stikky got back into drums and with Jonathan formed the "Soul Satisfaction" with whom Joanne also sang.
After its break up, Stikky went on to form "The Midnight Movers" – another purely Soul band.
Three years later, Stikky, Jonathan and Joanne reunited & formed "Major Groove".
Although we still play a lot of Soul, we now include other genres & find this more challenging & enjoyable.
